Dr. Murphy in Ghana

Malnutrition is the underlying cause of many infant deaths.  Although Ghana is short on health care providers, their young physicians are excellent and caring. However, they lack equipment and supplies.

Ghanaians are friendly, peaceful, generous and appreciative.

Funds are used to pay for the care of patients, and to purchase and transport essential medical equipment and supplies that enable physicians to offer hope and healing to those in need.

Our Mission

To provide health care to the indigent people of Northern Ghana, West Africa.

Background

Most of the two million inhabitants in this Sub-Saharan area are subsistent farmers, earning $3.40 a day. The region lacks sufficient health care, having one physician to 28,000 inhabitants, whereas the United States ratio is one to 500. Most of the homes lack water and electricity. The women on a daily basis obtain water using a hand pump from a village bore hole.
